Math Learning Fun! :)

Math is so much fun!!!!   We had an amazing week! :)   One of the exciting activities we worked hard on was during Math CAFE.    Each child practiced using a budget to 'order' craft items for a paper bag hat. They practiced sorting, counting, adding, and subtracting money in order to prepare for a visit to the DOYLE HAT MAKING STORE.   They counted out money (plastic coins) in order to pay for each item budgeted from the store. They could not go over $1.60.  Students then purchased craft items, aligned to their budgets, to make celebration paper hats. Here are a few pictures of our learning fun. This is just one of the ways we practice math in a 'real world' way.

January Learning Fun...

Wednesday Problem Solving Groups:
We worked collaboratively to solve math problems, defend our answers, ask questions, and model solutions.

Each group shared their math problem, thinking, strategies for solving, and solution to the problem with the class. They also answered questions about their solutions and strategies used.
Group discussions, problem solving and collaboration helps to deepen the understanding of math concepts.

Science Observation and Experimentation: We are learning about the effects of wind.  We will use this information as we study more about how Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.

Guest Bloggers Share Field Trip Fun

Our Beverly Beach Field Trip:
We had fun at Beverly Beach. We observed many exciting things on the beach. One group saw some purple in the sand and mud by the shore line.  We saw some foam and bubbly stuff in the water. It was interesting when we saw some fossils in the rocks, sea creatures in puddles, and part of a bird. There was a big rock wall that Hope climbed up and slid down. The weather was cold and it hailed on us, but it was so much fun. We were trying to figure out how the lines in the sand were made. We saw seagulls swimming and walking on the beach.  We can't wait to go back and see more! :)
